NYCFC Lose 2-0 Against Inter-Miami

On Wednesday 10/14/26 New York City FC faced off against Inter-Miami, these two teams do have some rivalry as Inter-Miami did beat NYCFC 5-1 knocking the team out of the Easter Conference Finals.

Ultimately Inter-Miami would win the 2025 MLS Cup and lead to heated rivalry amongst both teams, the teams previously met March 22, 2026 where although there were some glimpse of hope (having a 2-1 lead) Inter-Miami ultimately dominated in a 3-2 win against NYCFC.

This game had a massive story and an even more tragic outcome as NYCFC lost to Inter-Miami.

Goal Scored:

20′ — Germán Berterame (Inter Miami CF) — Assisted by Luis Suárez.

45+5′ — Rodrigo De Paul (Inter Miami CF) — Assisted by Lionel Messi.

NYCFC attempted a response with Niko Fernandez Meracu having 5 shots on target but ultimately they did not reach the back of the net. Moreover, there was a glimmer of hope in the 93rd minute as Talles Magno drew out a penalty from inside the box, Niko Fernandez took the penalty, but was ultimately saved by Dante Sinclair.

Some positive notes for NYCFC is seen through Matt Freese as he saves multiple goals from being score and Pascal Jansen said the following, “He [Goalkeeper Matt Freese] showed again today that he’s that solid Goalkeeper for us
who can win games for us.”

Furthermore, the team was performing well within the first half of the game and even played Benne Traore as a winger and seemingly helping the team push the offense to a more dangerous attack. Along with Alonso Martinez in the starting 11 and seemingly making a comeback from his ACL injury and Talles Magno was subbed in the 84th minute after being on the injury list for a long stretch of games.

The team has only won 1 game within the last 12 matches leaving the team in question for the playoffs as they are relying on both the New York Red Bulls and FC Cincinnati to lose points within this final stretch of the season. Pascal Jansen said the following about the recent results, “We’ve been trying to approach each and every game we have remaining as a final, making sure that we get the most [points] out of those games. That remains unchanged going into the final stretch of five [MLS Regular Season] games, with the home game against LAFC on Saturday, which is a key moment for us. The key aspects throughout this final stretch remain the same, and this is one we’re looking forward to, playing at home, in order to make that happen for us.”

Furthermore, in terms of the team moral Tayvon Grey said the following, “I think the whole bunch is mentally stable right now. Like I said, it’s down to the nitty gritty. We don’t have much time to doubt, put our heads down, and get all upset. Today, all
the [other MLS] results pretty much went our way, so it’s all there for the taking. We just
have to lock in for these last five [MLS Regular Season] games.”

NYCFC face against LAFC on Saturday 10/17/2026, if they lose this game this could be the final nail in the coffin for the 2026 MLS season for the team or a boost of hope to push into the playoffs.
