This past Saturday (9/27/2026) the boys in Blue took on Atlanta United at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium; however, there were prominent absences due to international duties.
- Aiden O Niel
- Mijta Illenic
- Matt Freese
- Maximo Carrizo
Along with these call-ups, there was a laundry list of injuries that have been prominent since halfway through the season, but NYCFC still moved forward.
5th Minute – Mathew Edwards scored an own goal leading NYCFC 1-0
10th Minute – Giuliano Galoppo scored the equalizing goal leading to a 1-1 tie in the match
55th Minute – Andrea Perra scored a header goal leading NYCFC 2-1
74th Minute – Jay Fortune scored a goal for Atlanta United leading to a 2-2 final outcome
For NYCFC, this is their 10th winless game of the MLS season post-World Cup break; moreover, there was one goal that was deflected off of Tomas Romeo (filling in for Matt Freese), leading to the equalizing second goal.
Pascal Jansen had this to say in the post-match press conference following the 2-2 draw,” He’s [Tomas Romeo] fully aware of the fact that this should have been a save made by him… But yeah, that’s one is on Thomas”.
Moreover, this was Augustin Ojeda’s 100th appearance for the club, and the fast winger has been a crucial part of the team with 10 assists alone this season and an unforgettable goal against Inter Miami CF. Pascal had this to say about Augustin Ojeda’s development: “His [Forward Agustín Ojeda] personal growth is very impressive. He is an attacking player
at this moment in time that has a lot of impact, which takes a little bit of weight off the
shoulders of [Forward] Nico [Fernandéz Mercau]”.
New York City FC are pushing for the playoffs as they have 7 more matches pending for the remainder of the MLS season.
New York City FC’s next match is against Chicago Fire on 10/10/26 at Soldier Field.
